A cannabis vaporizer and cannabis flower assortment sit on a table while OG Medicals explains their vaporizer selection

There are so many ways to enjoy cannabis now. Gone are the days of packing a Coke can lid with stems and seeds. There are many options and some are easier and more portable than ever. Vaping is the fastest growing and one of the most popular ways to consume your favorite flower or concentrate. There are a few ways you can use a vaporizer and we want to give you a 101 on vapes. After that, you’ll have enough knowledge to try it yourself and make your flight or layover more aerial than ever before.

What is a Vaporizer?

A vaporizer is a battery-powered device attached to a cartridge or chamber that uses heat to evaporate the cannabis into a vapor that is inhaled through a mouthpiece. People are embracing vaporizers for multiple reasons:

-First, they are portable. Except for a tabletop vaporizer, vaporizers are compact, can fit in most pockets or bags, and are lightweight. It makes it a no-hassle alternative to carrying around a dab rig or a pipe and grinder.

-Secondly, they are overall safer to consume. They have fewer carcinogens than burning flower, are odorless, and also retain the terpene and flavor profile so you not only get a smooth inhale but also a tasty one.

-Thirdly, vapor works faster and has rapid onset abilities. Consumers usually feel it right away and the effects are fairly long-lasting. These benefits make vape pens perfect to sneak into a concert or bring on a hike.

What Types of Vaporizers Are There?

There are three traditional types of vaporizers: tabletop vaporizers, pocket/portable vaporizers, and vape pens. They all operate similarly but have slight differences.

Tabletop Vaporizers

Tabletop vaporizers also called volcanoes due to their conic shape, aren’t portable but are still easy to use. Volcanoes have a wide base and taper off at the top where a plastic bag is attached. Fill the chamber with cannabis and set the temperature dial to your preferred setting. The cannabis will heat up, the vapor will fill the plastic bag, then when it is filled, turn off the vaporizer, detach the bag, and inhale for an odorless and powerful vapor session. They are fantastic to have for a party or even a solo voyage.

Portable Vaporizers

You have seen a few of these around. They’re small and boxy, yet cylindrical, and have a removable top. Portable vaporizers are almost identical to vape pens, except they have a chamber designated to put cannabis flower instead of hash oil or concentrate. Simply put your favorite flower (OG Medicinals has remarkable flower options) in the chamber, press the button to activate the battery, or just inhale, and the flower heats up and flows through the mouthpiece. These are a great choice for on the go, the only drawback being that you still need flower.

Vape Pens

The classic and most well-known version of vaporizers. They are compact and consist of a threaded battery attachment (usually 501 threading) and a cartridge filled with concentrate. They are either refillable or disposable. Refillable vape pens require you to fill the chamber with hash oil or concentrate, available at any dispensary, with a syringe. Make sure to charge the battery when it runs low. Disposable vape pens can’t be recharged or refilled, and last only as long as the cannabis oil does. All you need to do is inhale and dispose of when it runs out.

When using vape pens or portable vaporizers, inhaling activates a light on the side or the bottom of the device that shows it is being used. Once you get a full hit, the light will blink and that’s when you can exhale.
